Quality, Health, Safety & Environment

All losses are preventable.

We firmly believe that all losses of people, property and processes result from management failure — and are preventable. That belief is the starting point for everything our QHSE department does.

OMS implementation

One framework across the whole business lifecycle.

The QHSE OMS framework is designed to cover all phases of SeaLand's business activities — the term 'operating' encompasses the entire business lifecycle.

SeaLand QHSE has customised the implementation of the ten OMS elements to address differences in risk and complexity across our range of activities. The framework lets us address different types of risk and business approach, including the integration of social responsibility, quality, occupational health and safety, and security.

QHSE OMS applies whenever SeaLand has direct management control over activities. Where activities are not directly managed by SeaLand, it is important to ensure risks are managed at the appropriate level — particularly when working in partnership with contractors, subcontractors and other suppliers, in partner-operated joint ventures, when supplying products to customers, or when collaborating with local communities.

QHSE inspection activity

Inspection and quality control

Inspection is a subset of QC that includes measuring, examining, testing or gauging one or more characteristics of a product and comparing the results with specified requirements and pre-set standards, in order to establish whether conformity is achieved for each characteristic — as defined by ISO 2859.

The detailed Inspection Test Plan (ITP) or Inspection Scope (IS) is agreed through consensus among relevant stakeholders during a Pre-Inspection Meeting (PIM). Measuring tools and equipment used in the inspection procedure must have organised calibration and maintenance plans in order to prevent defective inspections, in accordance with ISO 17025.

Inspection scope

  • Packaging and labelling
  • Visual inspection
  • Functional testing
  • Non-destructive testing
  • Pre-shipment inspection
  • Inspection during manufacturing

Acceptance criteria standards

  • TH HILL DS-1 Volume 3, 4th Edition — drill stem inspections
  • API Specification 5CT, 10th Edition — casing and tubing
  • API Specification 5L, 46th Edition — line pipe
  • NACE MR-0175 (ISO 15156, Parts 1–3) — materials for H2S-containing environments
  • API 6A, 21st Edition — wellhead and tree equipment
  • ISO 2859-1 — sampling procedures for inspection by attributes
  • ISO 10893-5 — magnetic particle inspection of steel tubes
